Pontsho Pilane

Pontsho is an award-winning journalist, author and media lecturer. She also works with local and international social justice organisations to create impactful campaigns, media training workshops and communication strategies. In 2015, she started a campaign called #FreeToBleed and put forward a policy proposal to Parliament for the provision of free sanitary pads to disadvantaged people who menstruate. In 2018, the value-added tax on disposable sanitary pads was removed but she still works towards the realisation of free pads for all who menstruate in South Africa
